Watch! Indian captain MS Dhoni ‘has fun’ grilling Aussie journalist when asked about retirement: Mahendra Singh Dhoni has developed a unique way of handling Team India as well as the media, over the years! This could be due his long career as batsman, wicket keeper and Indian Skipper. Dhoni hinted the world, in his typical jovial style, that he has no plans to retire in the near future.
For the first time, Dhoni revealed his desire to feature in the 2019 World Cup, during an interaction following the semifinal exit of India from the WT2o World Cup 2016.
When an Australian journalist asked MSD about if he is keen to continue playing his game,Dhoni invited the journalist to join him on the dais. See the brief interaction between the journalist and the skipper below.
Dhoni: You want me to retire?
Journalist: Not that I want. That’s what I want to ask you.
Dhoni: I was hoping it was an Indian media guy because I can’t really ask you if you have a son or a brother who is a wicketkeeper. Do you think I am unfit, looking at my running?
Journalist: No. You’re very fast.
Dhoni: Do you think I can survive till the 2019 World Cup?
Journalist: You should, yes, sure.
Dhoni: Then you have answered the question.
After the journalist stepped down, Skipper then continued saying, “I wish it was an Indian mediaperson. Then I would have asked if he has a son who is a wicketkeeper and ready to play. He would have said no, then I would have said maybe a brother who is a wicketkeeper and who is ready to play. You fired the right ammunition at the wrong time.”
Earlier, Dhoni lost his cool during a press conference after India’s win in a group match against Bangladesh in World T20 2016. The limited-over Cricket captain retired from Tests, already.
